What is Decompression Therapy?

Decompression Therapy

Back pain is everywhere and it continues to disrupt our daily routines. Weakening back muscles, poor posture, and nerve damage have become the norm in the workplace. So, let’s discuss a very common chiropractic treatment for finding quick and effective relief.

What Is Nonsurgical Spinal Decompression?

Nonsurgical spinal decompression is a type of traction relieve that if very

successful in relieving pain associated with spinal disc herniation, degenerative spinal discs, and facet joint syndromes. This gentle procedure takes pressure off the spinal disks and nerves by creating negative pressure in the disc. In doing so, the back is able to heal itself properly.

What Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression Has been Used to Treat:

  • Back pain, neck pain, and sciatica pain

  • Posterior facet syndrome or broken-down spinal joints

  • Herniated disks or degenerative disk disease

  • Injured or diseased spinal nerve roots

How Nonsurgical Spinal Decompression Is Performed?

During spinal decompression therapy, patients remain clothed and lie on a motorized table. The doctor fits you with a harness and operates the computer, customizing the treatment for to your specific needs. One difference between various decompression therapies is the patient's position on the table:

The (DRX9000) device requires the patient to lying face up while others may require the patient to be in the prone position on the table, lying face down (VAX-D).

The patient should not feel pain during or after the decompression therapy although they should feel stretch in the spine. Some treatments may last 30 to 45 minutes and may require 20 to 30 treatments over multiple weeks.

Who Should NOT Have this Procedure Done!

Most importantly, always ask your doctor whether or not you are a proper candidate for nonsurgical spinal decompression. Anyone with these conditions should not have this procedure performed:

  • If you are pregnant

  • Have had an Abdominal aortic aneurysm

  • Advanced osteoporosis

  • Implants in the spine

  • Fractures

  • Tumors
